In this case the name really refers to the technique the artist
has used rather than the subject matter, which can vary
considerably. In the WOX the artist has combined traditional
techniques with modern creative digital methods. Working on a rigid
support such as a wooden panel, a digitally processed photograph
is mounted, over which the art work is created using more
traditional pictorial materials. Finally a wax finish is applied or
a Chinese lacquer.
These WOX do not require frame. The bordered edges of the panels
are so designed that when mounted, the image appears to
'float'
some centimetres from the wall.
